The NPLCC provided funds to WDFW last year to help with integrating climate change into the Washington State Wildlife Action Plan as part of the 10-year update. Jessi Kerschner, lead scientist for EcoAdapt, led the efforts to develop this assessment. The Assessment provides narrative descriptions and rankings of the climate sensitivity of 268 species and 30 ecological systems. As part of the funding award, WDFW will host a workshop to share this information more broadly and help with its application.

WORKSHOP GOALS:

1. Develop familiarity with the methodology used to assess sensitivity and exposure to climate change. Presenters will walk through specific examples from the VA database.
2. Demonstrate how to address uncertainty in either future climate projections or in the species response.
3. Train participants on how to propose changes to the rankings, based on new or revised information.
4. Explore opportunities for using this information to create more robust conservation and recovery plans – particularly for species and ecological systems considered highly vulnerable.
