American Water Resources Association Specialty Conference: Climate Change Adaptation

Meeting Date: 6/15/2015

- 6/17/2015

Location: New Orleans, LA

June 15-17, 2015 Hyatt Regency French Quarter, New Orleans, LA

This American Water Resources Association (AWRA) specialty conference is about ACTION - how we respond, build resilient systems, and influence decision makers.

Much activity during the past year has addressed the scope of climate change nationally and internationally. U.S. federal agencies are developing programs to address the problems on a national scale and provide tools and assistance to states, tribes, and local communities in response to the President's Climate Action Plan issued in June 2013 and the November 2013 Executive Order 13653. The third National Climate Assessment was released in May 2014. States, water and wastewater authorities, and local and regional governments are evaluating climate impacts, developing adaptation alternatives, and beginning to implement action plans. The private sector is developing tools and products to aid in building climate resiliency.

Climate adaptation must be founded on firm technical information, but the state of the science is still evolving. As a result, leaders and policy makers often struggle with translating information produced by the scientific community for use in robust decision-making. This conference will provide a critical path towards informing climate adaptation decisions on the ground. AWRA's Summer Specialty Conference will bring together experts from a wide range of fields to address the issues of adaptation planning under uncertainty.
